162. Made Out of Words

You see,
Of course,
There is
Merely this:

1. AS A MATTER OF FACT

out of words] postered to the unfastened realm
[created through acceptance of experienced thought]
malleable through mind and eye [if not you or yours]
extended after the fashion of the night [dexterity
proceeding as an evidentiary contrivance] monstrous
timidity [the temerity to require the soothing balm of
expectation] plunder of the pleasurable pressures
[distinct from the retrograde but still katabatic]
dunning until the bill is paid or the color changes to
light brown [the bill of a pelican or the brow of a hat]

2. AS A MATTER OF FICTION

contumely conceived as a rounded pustule or an
adverb [intentional reliquaries of plundered
baubles] the manner in which a bone-dry leg bone
becomes a club to beat the man about the legs
[distress as the shearing of locks] bildungsroman
ruins [a portion of the port reserved for the portly]
concept in the form of precept [the melodious
merchandise of her borborygmus] caution and other
sounds that animals make [orchestras of vegetables
or ostriches] every moment of certain expectation

3. AS A MATTER OF FRICTION

the grate man that I once was [as bees to the honeypot]
election as a form of erection [what having been built
up crashes to the ground at the sound of an explosion]
skin motionless under the motion of skin over it [that
particular way in which the mouse moves across a pad]
scratching of an ear against a line of fingernails [this
uncertain process for extracting veins from the heart
of copper] a glance in the form of a strike [scraping
together enough will to read Shakespeare before bed]
your Velcro’d attachment to an image of your childhood

4. AS A MATTER OF FACTION

group separated from a larger group for the purposes
of being similar but different [consequence in place of
consciousness] careless indeliberations of a body
stained with the mistakes of the past [the voice is an
independent agent of the body] singing pushed aside
to allow for the possibility [at least] of never singing
again [dolorous and decidedly colorful] colon extending
gall bladder [semi-colon extending comma] having
awoken from her coma she understood the reasons
for sleeping [what keeps us apart and always a part]

5. AS A MATTER OF FASHION

night in her eveningwear but lacking a t [in that
perfect way the birds always appear in flight whenever
our eyes need them to] the cut that doesn’t slice
you open though it might reveal you by covering you
up [deciding to follow a way already or recently
set out for you] play in the field of fabrics and floating
[arms crossed and holding your lapels tight as you
jumped] bridge as a barrier to water [water as the way
to wave] color shape and fit rendered as something
separate from but required by and attached to the body

6. AS A MATTER OF FRANTIC

worry you not doll all into tatters of self [calibrated
yet exceeding the bounds of its calibration] thin and
brittle [scrabbling for in the way that fingernails
might and occurring in the form of and with the
presence of such fingernails] a memory left floating
outside of the boundaries of remembered time or
space and categorized clearly neither as dream or
experience [the dreary dreams of his youth] fear
of the fact of a dream proving true [clutched eggs]

7. AS A MATTER OF FRACTIONS

take me for instance as an example of a part of
a person [she pulled her partial from her mouth
in her version of the parlor trick] I have no sole
I have no hart [dogstained and teareared pages]
reduced to a grain of rice [to see the meal in it
or the worm] invisible divisions of light [touchstone
jewelry] plaintive so I knew I was singing with
the voice held tight [nauseated and perforated]
what the ulcer said to the hernia [reduced to a
pattern of particles held temporarily still [made
